What was your first job, and how did it shape your life?

My first job was as a farmhand on a dairy farm in New Zealand when I was 17 and left home in NJ. I wanted to discover myself as a sort of rite of passage and realized that hard work and perseverance were the keys to achieving personal fulfillment. I would also learn that the greatest knowledge did not necessarily come from books, but life experience.

What keeps you awake at night?

The knowledge that life is far too short - so little time to do all the things, see all the places and meet all the people I need too.

What books are currently on your bedside table?

La Peste by Camus and Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns

When do you feel most free?

When I am surrounded by the creative people who inspire me and that I have come to call my friends.

What was the last present you gave someone?

A helicopter tour of Manhattan
What is an extraordinary place you have recently traveled to?
Beijing never ceases to amaze me.
