What was your first job, and how did it shape your life?

In elementary school, I used to draw Simpson cartoons and sell them to other children as well as folks at garage sales in the neighborhood. It took me approximately five minutes per picture and I learned that it was significantly more fun and profitable than selling lemonade. I think that’s when I first realized I liked to “hustle” and had an entrepreneurial side.

What books are currently on your bedside table?

One Family, Two Worlds – This is a book written by my great grandfather and is the history / story of our family. I’ve realized how important it is to learn about where I come from and address the questions I do have while the people that can answer them are still present.

How Asia Works – Named by Bill Gates as one of his top 5 books of the year.

Alchemist – Easy quick read.

What is your view on money?

Two very wise men capture my views on $ perfectly.
- “Money often costs too much.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
- “Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it.” The more a man has, the more he wants.
“Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.” – Benjamin Franklin
Although I appreciate money and the experiences it affords, the things that truly matter are family, friends, time, health, etc.

What is an extraordinary place you have recently traveled to?

My most recent trip was to Haiti. Friends and family are usually shocked when they find out I love spending my free time in a third world country. “Haiti is poor, dangerous, corrupt, and you should avoid it” people love to preach. This country may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I encourage you to experience it first hand prior to passing judgment. Haiti is poor but generous and unpolished but beautiful. There are mountains, beaches, waterfalls, fortresses, art and culture. Many people don’t realize that Haitians are proud to be the first independent nation of former slaves. For those willing to look, it’s a country of countless opportunities and a rich history. Haiti is one of the places in this world that I feel most alive and I will always go back.
