Eddie Lou is the CEO and co-founder of Shiftgig, a digital marketplace that connects people to work shifts on a mobile device. Shiftgig is one of the fastest growing technology companies in Chicago and has raised over $35 million in venture capital. A year ago, the company served Chicago and New York City; today, it is in 9 markets and will be scaling to over 20 markets be end of 2016.
Besides Shiftgig, Eddie also serves as a national board director in One Goal, the non-profit he co-founded. One Goal makes college graduation possible for thousands of urban youth.

What was your first job, and how did it shape your life?

Bus Boy at a restaurant where I learned the importance of showing up on time, customer service and the value of a dollar.

“The Hard Thing About Hard Things” by Ben Horowitz

When do you feel the most free?

Competing on a bike or during an aquabike race (formerly triathlons) because I’m moving fast and there isn’t a worry on my mind.

What was the last present you gave someone?

I surprised my beautiful wife with some hand lotion and a scented candle.

What was the last present you received?

A Steelers baseball cap.

What is an extraordinary place you have recently traveled to?

The Alhambra in Granada, Spain

What is the one thing most people don’t know about you?

I came 2nd place in an Ironman race. I actually came in 700th place but I raised $42,000 for charity which was 2nd place most fundraised.
