Joanie Lum is an Emmy award winning television news reporter, currently working for FOX 32 News in Chicago, covering breaking news, crime, politics and features, live on Good Day Chicago.
She is active in the Asian American community and serves on the Advisory Board of the Chinese American Service League, the Midwest’s largest social service agency.
What was your first job, and how did it shape your life?
My first job in television was as a news producer and reporter in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I learned how to ad-lib for long periods of time and how to recover from all kinds of mistakes.
What books are currently on your bedside table?
His Way, The Unauthorized Biography of Frank Sinatra by Kitty Kelley; Running With Walker by Robert Hughes, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
WHAT WAS THE LAST GIFT YOU GAVE SOMEONE?
A mini indoor hockey set, complete with 2 goals, 6 sticks and pucks. The family immediately played for almost 3 hours.
